Franco-Nigerian photojournalist Pierre Alozie talks to VICE about the photos he took at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Exactly 31 years ago on November the 9th 1989, the Berlin Wall that divided communist East Germany from West Germany was torn down, signifying the end of the Cold War. The wall, also known as the ‘Iron Curtain’, had been dividing East and West Berlin since 1961.

Pierre guides us through his time being a part of this pivotal historical moment; the anticipation in the air and the sense that things were finally changing. From the excitement of leather-clad West Berliners to a young girl standing symbolically on the crumbled wall, Pierre captured the events as they unfolded, as communism collapsed in Eastern and Central Europe reshaping the world as we know it.
